Sorting out right from wrong will save us from going to the dogs. There was Lunar Eclipse on Monday October 17 - the world’s media highlighted the threat of Avian flu. Flu news stayed in the headlines all week as anxiety spread through Europe and Asia.
I was fascinated to find that the word influenza was first recorded in 1743 after a great flu epidemic in Italy. The word derives from the Latin “influencia”, meaning influence based on the word “fluere” meaning “to flow”. It was related to “the influence that flows from the stars” and touches on human affairs. In the same way that the word “disaster”  derives from “aster” meaning star and the prefix “dis”, meaning an evil stellar influence, influenza was seen to be some kind of stroke of Fate.
